BREAKING NEWS: Houses burn in Esther Park (video)
The fires had been put out by the fire department.
Two houses on Gazania Street in Esther Park were damaged by fire on Tuesday afternoon following a veld fire along the P91 which burned all afternoon.
Three bedrooms in one dwelling were gutted while the other house suffered damage to its roof.
According to Frikkie Wolff (24) his mother’s bedroom caught fire first. He told Express on the scene the grass next to the road was very long and the fire jumped towards the houses.
A container with wood outside the bedroom caught fire and the flames quickly spread to the other two bedrooms.
He said they battled the flames with a hosepipe but as the heat and smoke got worse, they had to leave the house. The family and their dogs escaped unharmed.
The fires had been put out by the fire department.
