Tembisa lass wins matric dance competition
The auditions were held at Phomolong Sports Ground and involved three different categories
A Tembisa lass won a matric dance competition held at KwaThema Hall on July 6.
The competition was aimed at assisting matric learners who can’t afford the costs involved in a matric dance.
The auditions were held at Phomolong Sports Ground and involved three different categories that included answering general questions. The competition allowed all learners of all genders to partake.
The competition was organised by Pam Faku and the prizes included a bursary, shoe vouchers, make-up, a hired sports car for transport to the matric dance venue and an outfit from Pam Faku Designs.
After the auditions, which took place in Phomolong, Tembisa, on June 22, the finalists were named.
They were called to the finale, which was hosted at KwaThema Hall on July 6.
The finalists included learners from various townships, including Tembisa.
Njabulo Maseko, Nokuthula Galela, and Bunhle Ledwaba took the top three places in the competition.
Tembisa’s Ledwaba came third, Maseko from KwaThema took second place and Galela from Tsakane claimed the top spot.
Maseko and Ledwaba will also be dressed by Pam Faku Designs on the day of their matric dances.
Ledwaba said she found out about the competition through the Tembisan.
“This will help me plan the costs of the event accordingly since the dress is on its way,” said Ledwaba.
Galela said she feels great to have won because it will bring positive change to her life.
“The bursary can help me further my studies.”
Faku said the event will be bigger and better next year, with more sponsors on board.
“We will be looking at empowering learners from Grade 10 to 12 with prizes and bursary opportunities,” said Faku.
