‘Sick’ refuse removal worker caught with fake sick note, ‘doctor’ arrested

On checking the doctor’s papers, it emerged he was a foreign national from the Democratic Republic of Congo

The metro police believe they might be on the brink of cracking a network involving fraudulent medical certificates after the arrest of an employee at the Kempton Park waste management depot.

“Ongoing investigations are expected to reveal more fraudulent medical certificates in this regard and more suspects are expected to be arrested,” said metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

He said on July 23, they received a complaint from the waste management depot about a suspicious doctor’s note submitted by an employee who had been absent from work for over five weeks.

A thorough investigation was initiated and it was established that the doctor’s note was fraudulent. The “doctor” was arrested in Kempton Park central business district on July 24 at 9.30am.

The employee, who had allegedly paid R400 for the fake medical certificate, was arrested at 9am on July 25 at the  depot where he works.

On checking the “doctor’s” papers, it emerged he was a foreign national from the Democratic Republic of Congo, using an alias instead of his real name, said Kgasago.

Charges of fraud against the pair were laid at Kempton Park Police Station.
