Obedience leaves The Tembisan after six-month internship

'My father wanted nothing but education for me. He guided me on the right path of education'

Our intern journalist, Obedience Mkhabela, has left The Tembisan on Wednesday after a six-month journey.

Mkhabela’s contract officially came to an end on July 31. He joined the people’s paper at the beginning of the year through Caxton’s intern opportunities programme.

He will now concentrate on finishing his National Diploma in Journalism at the Tshwane University of Technology.

“I have learnt so much in the short time I have been with the paper. I was so blessed and fortunate to have worked under the watchful eye of an experienced and competent mentor and editor, Christa Smit.

Obedience Mkhabela leaves The Tembisan office.

“I had to quickly adjust and sharpen my skills, as well as my writing techniques, to adjust to the publication’s writing styles and formats,” says Mkhabela.

“What I have learnt will be life- and career-changing if applied correctly. As a journalist, I have become close to the community and I have made a lot of valuable professional relationships, which will last a lifetime,” he continues.

He says he was inspired by his father who motivated him to work hard to succeed in life.

“I grew up listening to the right voices. My father wanted nothing but education for me. He guided me on the right path of education,” said Mkhabela.
