WATCH: Wheelie bin left in middle of driveway irks resident

According to him, he puts the bin on his pavement but every time it ends back right in front of his gate.

Refuse removal workers do not realise what danger they cause for residents by their irresponsible placement of emptied wheelie bins.

A Birchleigh North resident, who wanted to be identified as Danie only, complained about his empty bin constantly being placed in front of his gate.

This forces him to first get out of his vehicle to remove the bin before he can enter his premises.

On July 4 he decided to take a photograph and on July 7, when the identical thing happened again, he took a video.

“This is extremely poor service for which I pay.”

According to him he puts the bin on his pavement but every time it ends back right in front of his gate.

“My neighbours across the road had their bin placed against the gate. She also had to get out of her car to move the bin before the gate could open. I don’t think they realise the possible repercussions involved and the dangerous situation it creates, especially for female drivers,” said Danie.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the City’s waste management officials have been engaged before the roll-out of the 240-litre bins that they should not be placed on driveways in order to curb possible hijackings and/or incidents.

“We shall ensure that the standard practice is adhered to at all times by our employees and would also like to encourage residents who have helpers, gardeners or family members, to ensure that they retrieve the bins immediately after collection to reduce possible theft thereof,” said Gadebe.
