Unemployed woman (55) left homeless after being kicked out of her shack

Mokoena, who originates from the Eastern Cape, said what followed was her shack being reduced to rubble.

A 55-year-old unemployed woman was left homeless after her shack was demolished by people who claimed to be the rightful owners of the land her shack was built on.

Anna Mokoena shared with this paper how she was manhandled and forced out of her shack in which she claimed to have been living in for over two years now.

“I was awoken by a loud bang on my door in the early hours of Friday morning. Just before I could get dressed, the people on the other end of the door had already kicked it open and forced their way inside. They grabbed me by the neck and told me to take my stuff and leave,” said a tearful Mokoena.

She said she politely asked what the matter was, but the mob just kicked her out and threatened to kill her if she didn’t comply.

“I realised they were really going to kill me if I didn’t do as they instructed, so I got dressed and went outside. After I went outside, they took my clothes, bed, blankets and fridge and threw it all outside,” she went on.

Mokoena, who originates from the Eastern Cape, said what followed was her shack being reduced to rubble.

“I just stood there speechless and really had nothing else to do than just watch the drama unfold,” she went on.

“They only reason I was given was that the piece of land belonged to their relative and that I had no right to live there. What surprises me is that I have been here for over two years and no one had come to me. I don’t know, maybe they are doing this because I am a woman and living alone,” said Mokoena.

She has, since this traumatic ordeal, become a charity case, knocking on every second door on her path, while people are apparently helping themselves to her clothes and furniture.

She is appealing for help from good Samaritans as she has nowhere to go.
