Auditions for Miss Inspire SA National Pageant

Makamu also said that as a finalist you have to start your community engagement portfolios in time

Each year the Miss Inspire SA National Pageant celebrates the crowning of an inspirational young woman and teen in South Africa.

The pageant has the following categories. Miss Inspire SA Woman 25 to 45 years old, Miss Inspire SA Queen ages 18 to 29 years old, Miss Inspire SA Teen ages 13 to 18 years old and Miss Inspire SA Junior ages 9 to 12 years old.

Throughout the years the ladies, who auditioned in Midrand, were from Tembisa and they had such success they ended up representing Gauteng in the finals. The pageantry hopes to crown the first-ever Queen to come from Gauteng.

Litshani Tshuma, the founder and director of the Miss Inspire SA National Pageant, said with such high numbers of young girls becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs, the pageant aims to shift the focus of young girls to positive initiatives.

“We believe that we can definitely get more Gauteng representatives from Tembisa. We need more woman from the area because they showed character over the years and hopefully this year we can get our Gauteng Queen from Tembisa or Midrand,” added Tshuma.

“We aspire to inspire young girls to engage in meaningful initiatives and to focus on self-development and building positive role models in our communities,” says Tshuma.

Tshuma also said the pageant celebrates strong and committed young women who are willing to represent the community as a goodwill ambassador, becoming a role model of today while strengthening our country for tomorrow. The enemy facing our youth today is multi-layered, for example unemployment, peer pressure and teen pregnancy. Often this leads to alcohol and drug abuse, making core problems harder to identify and leading to poor decision making.

First Princess 2019, Tiyani Makamu, joined in the conversation to highlight on the upcoming Midrand auditions on September 21 and share her story with everyone.

“Pageantry builds self-confidence, high self-esteem and self-belief. All semi-finalists are required to engage in community development initiatives and all finalists attend self-development workshops,” said Makamu.

“The competition tests you. It stretches you far pass your limit and that’s the moment you have to understand who you are. Beware that Miss Inspire does not became you, but you become the brand.

“The journey of six months gets to be determined by one night, but no lady walks out of the competition uninspired, because you still walk out a confident person,” said Makamu.

Makamu also said that as a finalist you have to start your community engagement portfolios in time and prepare properly.

“I would encourage contests to have their families behind them for full support, because I would have not made it to the finals without their support. They covered for my transport costs most times and helped raise funds for my donations,” she said.

Makamu also said the walk-in auditions will take place in all nine provinces, but others will audition online through live videos.

“The Gauteng auditions will be hosted in Pretoria, Midrand and Johannesburg.”
