WATCH: Bredell caravanners taught about veggie gardens
Three compost boxes were donated to the residents to start the composting project
An outreach project at a caravan park in Bredell in July proved to be very beneficial and fruitful for residents.
Among other things, residents were taught about composting and how to start a vegetable garden.
“We are working on a fantastic project where we are assisting the less fortunate in educating them and also teaching them how to grow their own vegetables instead of buying them,” said project leader Toni Ford.
“The first meeting focused on introducing the project and ways to compost. There will be more meetings as we continue to educate the residents on growing their own vegetable garden.”
Three compost boxes were donated to the residents to start the composting project. Each family received a file with information pamphlets as reminders of the kind of organic matters that could be put inside the boxes and what shouldn’t.
Ford also told Express that although there would be one garden at an identified area in the settlement, the plan was for each family to have their own vegetable garden in the long run.
Airport Packaging, QI Logistics, Rootbox and Endeo Family Church are the organisations that joined forces to assist in the garden project.

“We will visit the settlement on a monthly basis to ensure everything is going according to plan and to also give more lessons,” said Ford.
“We invite more companies and individuals to help sponsor or volunteer their time towards the project. It is not about the money but we would also appreciate if people would like to assist with their hands.”
Blankets and soup served with bread were also among the things donated on the day. The pastors and members of the church were seen praying with the residents.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make the launch of the project the success it was, and thank you to the organisations that have joined forces in seeing this project through,” said Ford.
“Anyone interested in assisting or joining can contact me on 066 363 4694.”
