On September 6 Benoni Flying Squad made an arrest and discovered stolen vehicles.
Members on patrol in Republic Road, Ivory Park noticed, a silver/grey Mitsubishi bakkie driving without a number plate. They proceeded to pull the vehicle over and upon investigation, found it did not to have a licence disc or identification markings. Members suspected the vehicle to be stolen and arrested the driver immediately, while the vehicle was impounded.
Warrant officer Grant Giblin, communications officer of Benoni Flying Squad, said police on patrol recovered more stolen vehicles around Tembisa.
“Three abandoned motor vehicles were reported hijacked on a Brakpan case. A white Toyota Etios next to OR Tambo Primary school, Emdeni Street, in Tembisa, shortly after it was hijacked in Rabie Ridge; a silver Toyota double cab in a veld in Porcelain Street, Clayville, totally stripped inside by the unsuccessful suspects searching for a tracking device after being stolen from Garsfontein; and a white Toyota Quantum at Chief Albert Lethuli Extension 4, Cloverdene,” said Giblin.
“Investigation continues in all cases. The SAPS would like to thank members of the community who phoned in to report suspicious activities and vehicles as this often leads to arresting criminals and recovering the vehicles,” said Giblin.
The suspect, aged 24, will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
