How to choose the best course to study
Taking life by passion is an amazing idea. It means you get to do what you love every single day.

But what happens if your interests shift over time? What was once exciting might be tedious now. The things you woke up thinking about with bright eyes and a bushy tail is now what keeps you glued to your bed. Sure, it might sound a little extreme, but it can become a reality if career choices are made on a whim based on current passion.
Now, we’re not saying don’t do what you love. But just make sure that you’re aware that what you do every day can be sustainable for you to do as your career.
Tips to study the right course
If you’re a first-time student or a professional looking to enhance your skills, finding out what you want your degree to be or picking a short course can be daunting.
Identify your interests
If you have zero interest in becoming a project manager, then doing a course in project management doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Before embarking on a short course, make sure that there are components which excite you at the time.
When you are feeling unmotivated, it is vital to have a good reason to push through any lethargic mood. Doing a course for the sake of doing a course will probably make the studies feel like the last thing you want to do after a couple of weeks.
Ask yourself why you want to study
Why do you want to study? Is it to add certain value to your resume or to engage thoroughly further in your field? Is it as part of a career shift?
The reason you are looking to study is important in your course choice. For example, if you are hoping to step into a leadership position in your current workplace, taking a leadership course might be exactly what your career needs. If you can find out why you want to study, it’ll make knowing what to study a little easier.
Consider what you are good at
You might have aspirations to be the next Justin Timberlake. If you are still tone-deaf after years of singing lessons, your dream might be a little difficult to achieve. Set the bar high in your professional life, but align your key goals with what captures your interest as well as what you consider your strengths. Taking a course in a field in which you excel can help take you to the next level of ability.
Consider general courses
Doing a general course or degree can open doors you didn’t know existed. Doing a course in a broad subject related to something which interests you, it doesn’t risk narrowing your career down to a niche topic you studied. Having a wider field of reference can ultimately help you identify the direction in which you want to go.
Research what you will be researching
If you find yourself a course you’re interested in, read about it before signing up. You might find it doesn’t actually contain what you were hoping it to. Alternatively, it might be exactly what you were looking for, in which case, it’ll help get you excited to study before you have even started!
You can always change your mind
You can also always do another one! Doing a course doesn’t necessarily mean you are married to that industry or field. It also doesn’t make it a waste if you don’t go in that direction at the end of the day. You’ll find you will use skills from an avenue of studies in a different field in surprising ways.
