Smiles matter at Fouché Orthodontics

Smiles matter at Fouche Orthodontics, a recently established specialist orthodontic practice in Glen Marais.

Although the practice opened its doors in March, its presence was officiated in the dental community of Kempton Park last week Thursday with a spring celebration party.

“South African music duo Douvoordag entertained guests on the practice rooftop,” said Dr Paul Fouché, orthodontist at and owner of Fouche Orthodontics.

“All the dentists from the Kempton Park area were, on the day, invited to visit the practice.”

Fouché worked in Kempton Park as a general dentist before and said it was an easy choice to return to Kempton Park and serve the community as a dental specialist, trained in orthodontics.

“Choosing Kempton Park for our practice was a simple one, it’s home to us.

“Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that entails the correction of the alignment of teeth, as well as the optimisation of the position of the jaws,” explained Fouché.

“The position of the jaws has a big influence on facial beauty. Alignment of the teeth is often the main drive to why a patient would seek orthodontic treatment, and that we most certainly do, but it’s the way the teeth fit within the framework of the jaws that is the art of orthodontic treatment.”

The support from the dental community since they have opened their doors has been overwhelming.

“I don’t know where to begin to express my gratitude towards the dentists who have entrusted their patients’ orthodontic care to us. As the general practitioner you need to be assured that where you are sending your patients, they receive excellent care.

There is a great amount of teamwork in dentistry that people don’t always see, or maybe appreciate. Trust is the foundation of what we do and communication between myself, the patient and their referring dentist is key.

The referring practitioner must know that we have the patient’s best interest at heart, and the patient must trust us to perform the best treatment option currently available.”

As their motto – Smiles Matter – suggest, the team at Fouche Orthodontics is passionate about the latest advances in orthodontic treatment.

“Technology in the dental field is evolving at a fantastic pace and it is extremely exciting,” added Fouché, as he explained the Trios three-shape, 3D oral scanner that they installed at the practice.

“This device takes a 3D digital recording of your mouth in detailed colour with micro-precision. These scans are going to replace the putty scans we often need to take. The dental labs are already 3D-printing our study models, so the old ways are fading out.

“An important motivator for acquiring the scanner was to offer patients clear aligner treatment. This treatment modality uses translucent, near-invisible aligners that look like very thin mouth-guards to move teeth.

This offers patients an alternative to braces to straighten their teeth, especially patients who have had braces before and found their teeth have moved back.”

Fouché and his wife Nadia, who is a dentist herself, but is mainly involved in the administrative aspects of the practice, have invested themselves in the Kempton Park community to change smiles because it

changes lives. They encourage anybody who is concerned

about the alignment of their

teeth to visit them.

Schedule your appointment at 010 880 3990. The practice is situated in Glen Eagle Office Park, across from the driving range in Monument Road.
