The City of Ekurhuleni has put certain measures in place for the 21-day lockdown.
The measures are to ensure that all basic and essential services are provided to residents, including services to informal settlements such as health care, waste removal, provision of electricity as well as water and sanitation.
In a nutshell, here is what residents should know:
* All clinics will remain operational. Nokuthela Ngwenya Community Health Centre, Old Natalspruit Hospital and Old Thokoza Fire Station have been identified for quarantine of Covid-19 cases.
Six teams from the City of Ekurhuleni and Gauteng Department of Health have been activated to do contact tracing.
* Customer care centres and finance offices are operational with skeleton staff.
* Waste collection services continue according to schedule. Transfer stations and mini disposal sites are closed.
* The City of Ekurhuleni will endeavour to spread bookings for burials over seven days from 10am to 3.30pm. Graves will be allocated in a scattered manner to avoid congestion. Each funeral must finish in an hour. No unveilings are allowed.
* All sports, recreation, arts and culture facilities are closed (swimming pools, halls, recreation facilities, libraries).
* Emergency personnel and call centre agents are on duty.
* Metro police and security services are operational.
* All licensing offices are closed.
* The City will continue to coordinate its lockdown interventions through its joint operations centre.
