Drummer-chick, Layla (13), smashes two Grand Champ titles
Enveloped along with her achievements, Layla also won the sponsored trip to the World Championships to be hosted in America for 2021.
Layla Venter (13) is heading off to high school with two grand titles she bagged at the South African Championships of Performing Arts (SACOPA) in 2020.
She was crowned the Grand Champion Junior at the championships hosted by Dr Ellen Roux in which Layla participated during December in Rustenburg.
According to her mom, Geordie, she received five gold medals for drums in the instrumental category and two gold medals for vocal self-accompanied while she played the electrical guitar.
“Layla was chosen to participate in the showcase on December 12 and it was at this gala event that she received the Grand Champion Instrumental Award,” said Geordie.
“She was so shocked that she did not even hear the next announcement of her name as the 2020 Junior Grand Champion of SACOPA.”
This achievement grants Layla a paid trip to America in July in which she will compete against the cream of the crop at the world championships, taking place from July 26 to August 8.
It will be hosted either in Nashville, Tennessee, or Los Angeles.

Before the championships’ successes, Layla also ranked in the top three vocalists on the Jacaranda My Kid Rocks competition.
“Competing in America has been Layla’s dream since she started competing.”
To all the children and those striving towards their dreams, Layla conveys the following message: “In these difficult times, God will make a way. Never give up on your dreams, because He never will.”
Layla is on her way to becoming a proud Kempie as a Grade Eight learner at Hoërskool Kempton Park and her mom said how she could not be more thrilled.
