Five suspects arrested in Bredell

Officers found a black 9mm firearm with its serial number filed off, a toy gun and four vehicle registration numbers.

Five suspects were arrested by the Benoni Flying Squad on three charges in Bredell on February 11. This comes after the squad members were patroling the Bredell area.

“The members spotted a suspicious-looking golf Toyota Avanza with five occupants on the corner of Stanley and High roads,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“They checked the vehicle and discovered the vehicle was reported hijacked in Soshanguve earlier in February. “The vehicle was stopped and searched, which was when the officers found a black 9mm firearm with its serial number filed off, one magazine with eight live rounds, a toy gun and four vehicle registration numbers which the suspects couldn’t account for.”

All five suspects were arrested and detained at Kempton Park Police Station on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapon and possession of the hijacked motor vehicle.
Kempton Park Police Station’s acting station commander, Col Lesetja Manewa, commended the members for their excellent job.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to clean Kempton Park by arresting those who own illegal firearms and the efforts of the officers involved are commended as they venture out continuously to ensure communities are and feel safe,” he said.
