City Awards winner chats about his music career
“I have learned that everything has a time and that nothing comes to those who wait; always work hard and pursue your dreams since no one will do it for you.”
Best Newcomer at the City Awards Malachia Tshidino, commonly known as ‘Oh Stino’, aspires to have his songs on the South African music charts.
The 25-year-old from Umfuyaneni Section got his passion for music from his father and mentor, Nkhetheni William Tshidino, the founder of the well-known Mvusuludzo band.
“I can confidently say that music runs in our family’s blood because my love for music began when I was 13 years old. I also used to be the backup vocalist for Mvusuludzo, so I knew without a doubt that I was an artist,” Tshidino said.

The multilingual singer also added that his experience in the band contributed to the progression of his music career since it instilled in him great discipline and love for his job.
“My journey is pure evidence that one should never give up on what one believes in because of the delays and obstacles that one may encounter. I have over 12 years of experience in the entertainment industry but only gained recognition as an artist in 2020.
“This is an even greater motivation for me not to give up.”
Tshidino also expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support he received from his family and coworkers, which helped to keep him motivated and work extra hard to make outstanding music.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with several local artists, including Saqume, Batondy and Opium DC, and he regards the experience as one that he would never exchange for anything as it helped him grow his profile as an artist.
“As an artist, my objective has always been to be heard and deliver a message of hope with songs in different places in a short amount of time, and with all the individuals I have worked with, I am delighted to say that I have succeeded thus far. But I am working hard to reach greater heights and acquire recognition.”
Tshidino encourages young people to go above and beyond in discovering their potential and ensuring that their voices are heard, whether through music, entertainment or other abilities.
“I have learned that everything has a time and that nothing comes to those who wait; always work hard and pursue your dreams since no one will do it for you. Everything is possible if you believe and work hard to achieve your goals.”
