The final-year BA Live Performance student at Afda, wanted to pursue something that would lead to confidence and visibility.
The student actor, influencer, content creator, entrepreneur and MC was on the lookout for a chance to advance his career in the entertainment industry. One such opportunity is through the TikTok app, which allows users to showcase their talents and abilities through dancing, acting, singing, cinematic performances, stunts and other means.
“I was born to entertain. I’ve always wondered what I can do to put that talent to good use and entertain others. I didn’t know where to begin or who to look up to, but viewing a number of videos from other skit producers motivated me to get started and keep going.
“I recall starting my first skit/video while still staying at Res during lockdown in 2020. I’d enlist the help of my friends to shoot, but I’d also do it alone in my room with no equipment other than my phone and a borrowed ring light. The positive feedback, likes, comments and favourites I received from the few followers I had at the time inspired me to do more and keep going. We’re still pushing a year and a half later,” said Marule.

According to Marule, there are numerous ways to describe his own brand.
“I am focused, energetic and an inspiration to many others. I promote self-confidence and inspire people to be themselves, believe in their abilities, dreams and ambitions. I believe in self-reliance and accomplishing things on my own. I’ve learned a lot through losing my parents at a young age.”
Comedy Central and Somizi Mhlongo have both acknowledged the TikTok phenomenon.
“My videos are airing on Comedy Central. The most exciting thing for me is to be recognised and followed by industry heavyweights and production firms. I’m also collaborating with Samsung and MTN on a marketing effort.
“I aim to write and direct several films.
“Somizi, whom I refer to as my industry father and who he refers to me as son, once reposted me, which meant a lot to me and helped me grow my following.”
The TikToker’s 2022 goal is to bag himself a role on TV before he graduates in 2023.
“I would like to work with a few house productions, such as Connie Ferguson from Ferguson Films, Thabang Moleya from Seriti Films, Mandla N from Black Brains.”
Marule’s advice to up-and-coming entertainers is to be themselves.
“There’s nothing more appealing than being true to yourself. Believe in your craft.”
