Tau Manthata: Nurturing Thembisa’s youth through football

Tau Manthata wishes to see hidden gems in Thembisa thrive and receive a platform.

My name is Tau Manthata.

I’m a team player, and I get along with people.

I started school at Hlakanang Primary and went on to Bokamoso Secondary, where I enrolled in 2005. I’ve lived in Thembisa for 24 years, and this township has shaped who I am today.

One of my favourite memories growing up was the 2010 FIFA World Cup. That event sparked my passion for football and showed me how sport can bring people together.

Thembisa is a place full of hope, opportunities, and a strong sense of community. It’s a safe place to raise children.

Active community voices like the Voice of Thembisa play a crucial role in keeping residents united.

I love exploring hidden gems around the township. We have malls nearby where we can eat food, and I always feel relaxed and have fun when I’m with my juniors.

My life changed when I became a coach for Winnie United Juniors in 2020. That role gave me peace and allowed me to channel my passion into youth development.

Our community faces challenges, such as illegal dumping and service delivery protests related to infrastructure issues. I believe things can improve with good leadership and active community involvement.

Themba Zwane inspires me the most. He is kind, gets along with everyone, and his lifestyle motivates me to strive for more.
My focus is on youth development, coaching young footballers at Winnie United.

We have divisions from U11 to senior development. We emphasise position-based football, group marking, and pressing traps, ensuring that players grow both technically and mentally.

I also believe in personal growth and mindset.

Advice from Mr Pilusa has stuck with me: “Remain vigilant, never settle for less, and accept change in life.”

Home is where the foundation of your identity is built, and Thembisa has given me that foundation.

From humble beginnings to modern development, it is a place of hope, opportunity, and community spirit.
