Rapid response units nab 125 and recover 55 vehicles

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Between April 28 and May 4, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 125 suspects, recovered 55 motor vehicles and six firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 44 arrests for serious crimes including assault GBH, possession of suspected stolen goods, housebreaking, pointing of firearm, possession of illicit cigarettes, malicious damage to property, robbery, bribery, conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted hijacking.

Fifty-five hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 18 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Six unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying eight arrests.

In further policing, 55 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Investigations into all cases will continue and the suspects arrested will appear in local magistrates courts across Gauteng.
