Police arrest 98 suspects, recover 31 vehicles and seize eleven firearms

Rapid Response Services conducted operations across Gauteng, which resulted in several arrests. Vehicles and firearms were also recovered.

Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 98 suspects, recovering 31 motor vehicles and 11 firearms between March 15 and 21.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 40 arrests for serious crimes, including common assault and GBH, robbery, malicious damage to property, fraud, attempted murder, hijacking, house burglaries and theft.

A total of 31 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Officers also recovered 11 unlicensed firearms and arrested 12 suspects for possession of the weapons.

In further policing, they made 38 arrests for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among the drugs confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local Magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
