Security officer, suspect injured in cash-in-transit robbery

Unconfirmed reports suggest that explosives were found at the scene. The area has been cordoned off to allow for investigations to continue.

One security officer and a suspect were injured in a cash-in-transit robbery this morning, July 3, in Liliba Secion, Thembisa.

According to information received the robbery occurred at around 07:40 when a Mercedes Benz crashed into a G4S van.

The Mercedes Benz subsequently burst into flames.

During the crash the driver of G4S van and a suspect were injured.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment and treatment.

The Thembisan has received unconfirmed reports that explosives were found at the scene.

The area surrounding the scene has been cordoned off to facilitate further investigations.

The SAPS helicopter has been deployed to aid in the search of the suspects who escaped the scene.
