Police units nab suspects and recover motor vehicles and firearms

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were also confiscated.

Between March 14 and 19, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 87 suspects, recovering 29 motor vehicles and seven firearms.

According to media liaison officer, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 43 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, house robbery, theft, common robbery, possession of explosives, malicious damage to property, possession of unlicensed ammunition, driving under the influence, fraud, use of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, illegal immigrant and attempted murder.

A total of 29 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with ten arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Seven unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying three arrests.

In further policing, 31 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases and the suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
