Gauteng police arrest 47 suspects and recover 25 stolen vehicles in week-long operation

Gauteng’s Rapid Response Services arrested 47 suspects and recovered 25 stolen and hijacked vehicles between June 27 and July 3.

Between June 27 and July 3, Rapid Response Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 47 suspects and recovered 25 motor vehicles along with three firearms.

Members took part in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts, and intensive patrols across Gauteng.

These efforts led to 32 arrests for serious crimes, including common assault and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of precious metals, possession of vehicle breaking implements, reckless and negligent driving, murder, hindering police in the carrying out of their duties, attempted murder, illegal immigration, rape, and theft.

A total of 25 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered abandoned.

Three unlicensed firearms were recovered in connection with four arrests.

In further policing, 11 arrests were made for possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, and Mandrax were among the substances confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations in these cases are ongoing.

The suspects will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
