Police arrest six suspects, seize stolen copper and drugs

Officers arrested a 37-year-old after finding him with 831 Mandrax tablets with a street value of about R50 000.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six people and recovered copper cables and drugs between July 23 and 27.

Members patrolling the R555, Springs Road, on July 24 at 09:00 arrested a 28-year-old foreign national after finding him next to the road with two bags of copper cables valued at about R20 000, suspected to be stolen.

The man tried to bribe members with R1 000, leading another charge. Officers detained him at the Etwatwa SAPS, where they also booked in the cash and copper as exhibits.

On the same day, at about 09:25, members followed up on information which led to Ext14, Emaphupeni, Etwatwa.

Members arrested a 37-year-old after finding him with 831 Mandrax tablets with a street value of about R50 000.

In further policing and separate incidents, members arrested three people aged 27 to 40 for possession of drugs at the Tembisa Plaza and on Uphundu Street, Kingsway, finding nyaope and crystal meth.

On July 27, at about 01:00, members attending to a complaint at the Ehlanzeni Hostel, Thembisa, arrested a 26-year-old for domestic violence.

Investigations are ongoing in all cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrates’ courts facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen goods, domestic violence and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
