Norkem Park SAPS reports stable crime levels, steps up festive season policing

Norkem Park SAPS has reported stable contact crime and a slight decline in property-related offences, while intensifying visibility patrols, drunk driving operations and community safety initiatives ahead of the festive season.

Norkem Park SAPS has issued an update on recent policing activity and safety developments in the precinct.

The station reminds the public that, in line with SAPS communication protocols, official numerical crime statistics may only be released by National or Provincial SAPS offices. However, the following non-numerical trends and operational highlights can be shared for public awareness.

Contact crime levels in the precinct have remained stable in recent weeks, while property-related crimes, including burglaries and theft, show a slight downward trend, supported by intensified visibility patrols.

Drunk driving remains a concern over weekends, with continued joint operations involving National Traffic and the EMPD. Liquor compliance inspections have shown improved adherence following recent enforcement action.

Several Mini Shanella operations were conducted, targeting drunk driving enforcement, liquor compliance, second-hand goods inspections and stop-and-searches in hotspot areas.

Multiple arrests were made, and several non-compliant liquor outlets were addressed. Joint visibility patrols with CPF patrollers and private security stakeholders have further strengthened crime-prevention efforts.

SAPS also conducted school safety and anti-bullying talks as part of ongoing youth awareness initiatives.

With the festive season approaching, Norkem Park SAPS encourages residents to support and participate in the CPF.

An active CPF enhances visibility patrols, accurate and timely crime reporting, community responsiveness and effective partnership policing.

The station emphasises that community members play a critical role in keeping Norkem Park safe, especially during the high-risk holiday period.

Residents are urged to:
• Report suspicious behaviour immediately
• Ensure homes and vehicles are properly secured
• Avoid drinking and driving, focused weekend operations will continue
• Ensure liquor outlets display valid 2025/2026 renewal licences
• Work closely with SAPS and CPF structures to strengthen community safety

“Official numerical crime statistics cannot be released at station level. These are issued only at the National or Provincial SAPS level.

“Norkem Park SAPS will continue to provide general trends, operational updates and safety information to keep the community informed,” said Norkem Park SAPS communication officer, Sergeant Portia Mkhondo.
