Five arrested for driving under the influence
All five motorists arrested in Sebenza and Edenvale were subjected to breathalyser tests and were found to be over the legal alcohol limit.
Five men were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance during roadblocks conducted by the EMPD in Edenvale and Sebenza between December 16 and December 17.
According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, Edenvale Precinct officers carried out several roadblocks in the two areas as part of routine law enforcement operations, checking driver and vehicle fitness.
“During the operation, motorists were stopped at the intersections of Van Riebeeck and St John streets, as well as Terrace and Paul Kruger streets.

“Another motorist was stopped at Zuurfontein and Ossewa roads, while another was stopped at Andries Pretorius Road and 17th Avenue.”
All five motorists were subjected to breathalyser tests and were found to be over the legal alcohol limit.
The suspects, aged between 25 and 45, were taken to a registered nurse for blood samples to be drawn before being detained at Edenvale and Sebenza police stations. Charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance were registered against them.
They are expected to appear in the Kempton Park and Edenvale Magistrates’ Courts.
