EMPD arrests 2, seizes narcotics valued at over R200 000
The Drug Enforcement Unit seized a large quantity of drugs in a daytime operation in Kempton Park.
The EMPD’s Drug Enforcement Unit arrested two men and seized narcotics valued at more than R200 000 during an operation in Kempton Park on January 6.
“At around noon, officers on crime-prevention patrol received a tip-off about suspected drug dealing on Gottfried Street,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.
On arrival, officers saw what appeared to be a drug transaction and approached those involved.
“A body search of the first suspect led to the discovery of 18 ziplock bags of khat, six small ziplock bags of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R1 200, and R40 in cash,” said Thepa.
She added that further investigations led officers to nearby premises on the corner of Willow and Park streets, where they found the alleged supplier.

“A search of the premises uncovered 100 full Mandrax tablets, 100 half Mandrax tablets, 36 ziplock bags of crystal meth, two large plastic bags of crystal meth, 185 ziplock bags of nyaope, two plastic bags of heroin, and 22 plastic bags of khat. Officers also seized R1 048.20 in cash.”
The estimated street value of all the drugs recovered is over R200 000.
The suspects are a South African national and a foreign national. They face charges of possession of and dealing in illicit substances.
Both were taken to the Kempton Park Police Station and will soon appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
