Police operation across Gauteng nets 92 arrests, 40 vehicles

A total of 40 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered, with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Police Emergency Services (PES), comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 92 suspects and recovered 40 vehicles between January 9 and January 15.

The police members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts, and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 36 arrests for serious crimes, including common assault and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted robbery, contravention of a protection order, bribery, possession of precious metal, possession of illicit cigarettes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal selling of medicine, attempted murder, domestic violence, tampering with infrastructure, unlawful possession of ammunition, malicious damage to property, intimidation, and rape.

They recovered 40 hijacked and stolen vehicles, with eight arrests made for possession of these vehicles.

In further policing, the team made 48 arrests for the possession and dealing of drugs. Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
