98 suspects arrested in Gauteng police operations

Officers recover 55 vehicles, firearms and drugs during week-long crackdown.

Police Emergency Services (PES) comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 98 suspects, recovered 55 motor vehicles and three firearms, between April 10 and 16.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 34 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, house robbery, illegal possession of controlled medicine, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, murder, contravention of protection order, rape, contempt of court, theft, driving under the influence of liquor, pointing of a firearm and illegal immigrants.

They recovered 55 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles with 11 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Three firearms were recovered accompanying three arrests.

In further policing, 50 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, Cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigations continue in these cases.
