Law enforcement launches vehicle compliance inspections

More than 65 motorcycles and minibuses were checked for compliance in Brakpan, with officers also engaging drivers on road safety concerns.

EMPD Brakpan Precinct officers, in collaboration with Ekurhuleni Health and Environmental Department inspectors, conducted a compliance operation on April 24 targeting motorcycles and minibuses.

According to the EMPD, the operation was initiated after it was discovered that only one motorcycle out of more than 90 had a valid Certificate of Acceptability.

Management subsequently complied with law enforcement directives, acknowledging that all motorcycles are required to possess this certification.

Along Kingsway Avenue, over 65 motorcycles and minibuses were inspected for compliance prior to the issuance of Certificates of Acceptability.

Officers also verified driver’s licences, vehicle licence discs, roadworthiness of motorcycles and documentation of foreign drivers.

All inspected vehicles were found to be compliant with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996).

Officers further engaged with motorcycle operators, addressing concerns around reckless and unsafe driving behaviour, which poses a risk to all road users.
