Teen suspect arrested following murder of Grade 12 learner
The arrest follows the death of 17-year-old Lethabo Maroga, whose body was discovered on April 24 in an open space in Thembisa.
Thembisa SAPS has arrested an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner from Ingqayizivele Secondary School in connection with the murder of a fellow learner.
The arrest follows the death of 17-year-old Lethabo Maroga, whose body was discovered on April 24 in an open space between Emkhathini and Endulwini sections in Thembisa.
Police were called to the scene after the body of a girl, still dressed in her school uniform, was found dumped in a stream with stab wounds to her upper body.
The deceased was later identified as Maroga, a resident of Vusumuzi Section and a Grade 12 learner at Ingqayizivele Secondary School.
Following the incident, experienced detectives were assigned to the case. Police said investigations eventually led to the arrest of the suspect.

Thembisa SAPS station commander Brigadier Cyril Nkuna commended officers involved in the investigation for their dedication in gathering information that led to the arrest.
“With this arrest, I urge the community to remain calm and allow the justice system to take its course.
“Although we cannot bring back Lethabo, we hope this will bring some closure to her family,” said Nkuna.
“We do not rush to arrest suspects. Our goal is to present watertight cases before the courts and ensure those responsible are removed from the community through hefty sentences.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
