Thembisa murder case: Victor Rampedi remains in custody as State opposes bail

Victor Rampedi appeares at Thembisa Magistrates Court for murder that was committed in Vusimuzi.

Victor Rampedi (36) appeared in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on October 6 following the discovery of Ntombifuthi Nxumalo’s body at Mooifontein Cemetery in Vusimuzi Section, Thembisa.

The court postponed the matter to October 19 for a formal bail application, and Rampedi remains in custody while the State opposes bail under Schedule 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Nxumalo’s body was found on September 26, naked and with serious head injuries. The police report that she was beaten and stoned to death.

It is alleged that Nxumalo had been drinking at a local tavern with a female acquaintance before leaving with the accused. Residents living near the cemetery reported hearing a woman screaming and pleading for her life.

Police initially traced Rampedi to an address in Tembisa before tracking him to Mohlabaneng Village in Limpopo, where he was arrested.“The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) condemns violence against women and remains committed to pursuing accountability through the courts. The NPA will prosecute this matter diligently in its pursuit of justice for Nxumalo and her family,” said Gauteng Division NPA communications officer Magaboke Mohlatlole.
