DA helps bring smiles to Mayibuye Primary School

No learner should be left behind because the environment is not fit for learning.

The DA in Gauteng donated 67 pairs of school shoes to the Mayibuye Primary School in Thembisa to honour Mandela Day.

During many oversight inspections of this school, they observed the need for learners to be assisted by not only ensuring that they are taught in an environment that is conducive to learning but also making sure they do not miss a school day.

According to Khume Ramulifho MPL, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, they evaluated the context in which the school must teach learners.

“This school continues to make use of outdated mobile classrooms. However, a new school that was constructed cannot be used since it was situated on a sewer line,” said Ramulifho.

“The new, empty school has deteriorated significantly. The school hall’s ceiling has holes in it, the light switch covers are broken and raw sewage is seeping outdoors.

“It has been like this for the past four years and nothing was done to change the situation. Since this project started under his direction, we are requesting that Premier Panyaza Lesufi accept responsibility for the condition of this new school.

“To make sure that the officials accountable for this disaster bear the repercussions of their conduct, we will be bringing this issue before the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,” said Ramulifho.
