Kempton CBD polluted by sewer leakage

A sewer leak in Kempton Park has created a foul smell and put people off shopping in the area.

Businesses and pedestrians were negatively affected by a sewer leakage on the corner of Park Street and Pretoria Road in the Kempton Park CBD.

The manager of Coat Corner, Lawrence Magabane, said the leak started on August 1.

Businesses and residents reported the matter to the CoE and received a reference number.

“A team arrived on August 3 to repair the leak. There is only one part of the pipeline still needing to be fixed,” said Magabane.

He added that the leak had affected his business.

“Customers walk in, and all they can smell is sewage. The customers do not stay for long because of it.

“The only way to solve this is they must dig and find the cause of the leak as soon as possible,” he added.

According to Magabane, the stench and the sewage had affected his health.

He said staff members could no longer eat if they sat outside because of the stench.

The sewer leak has affected businesses and trade.

Pedestrian Moloko Mashilo told the Kempton Express he no longer enjoys shopping because of the sewage.

“This is very bad for our health. I sometimes avoid using this road because I fear getting sick,” said Mashilo.

The Express sent an enquiry to the CoE on August 4. At the time of going to print, we had received no comment.
