Mikateka Primary School shines bright in academic competitions

The future looks bright for Mikateka Primary School as learners recently raked in various achievements.

Mikateka Primary School, located in Ext 9 of Ivory Park, is basking in the glory of its recent achievements.

Under the leadership of principal Mandla Sibanyoni, the school has proven its academic prowess by securing top positions in prestigious competitions.

The school’s most recent triumph came at the 2023 Story Skirmish finals, a book-based quiz inter-school knockout event designed for Grade Four and Grade Five learners from schools where English is taught as both the mother tongue and first additional language.

Mikateka Primary School emerged as the undisputed champions, claiming the commendable first position.
The event took place at the Noordgesig Library on November 1, 2023.

Sibanyoni expressed immense pride in his students’ achievements, highlighting the dedication and hard work put in by both the learners and the teachers.

Boitumelo Aphane, who finished first in the Mental Math Challenge.

“ As the principal I emphasise the importance of fostering a love for reading and literature among the students, which played a crucial role in their success at the finals.

“These achievements not only reflect the dedication and commitment of the students but also highlight the supportive environment provided by our school, and that’s the efforts of the teaching staff who have undoubtedly played a significant role in nurturing the students’ talents and encouraging them to reach for the stars,” said Sibanyoni.

The primary school also celebrated the outstanding performance of one of its learners, Boitumelo Aphane, in the Mental Math Challenge.

Boitumelo’s exceptional mathematical skills earned him the coveted first position in the competition.

The Mental Math Challenge initially saw the participation of 1883 Grade Three learners.

Boitumelo’s remarkable abilities propelled him to the district level and subsequently to the provincial level, where he was honored at Sci-Bono on November 4.
