Thembisa NGO donates 60 pairs of school shoes to local school

At the handover, Luvo Mlobedi spoke on the struggles he encountered growing up in Thembisa and how it inspired him to help those who cannot afford school essentials.

Tembisa Alumni NGO donated more than 60 pairs of school shoes and sanitary towels to Ingqayizivele Secondary School on February 28.

Thembisa soccer star Luvo Mlobeli and former learner of Ingqayizivele Secondary School, with the NGO, took the initiative to raise funds and buy school shoes for learners at the school.

They aspire to help children from underprivileged backgrounds receive education without having to worry about school uniforms.

At the handover, Luvo Mlobedi spoke on the struggles he encountered growing up in Thembisa and how it inspired him to help those who cannot afford school essentials.

“I know the struggle learners face when they walk to school with torn shoes. This is the reason we decided to start an NGO to help learners feel comfortable at school.

“We chose to come back to our former school and do handovers as a token of appreciation to the teachers who taught us about the spirit of giving during our school days.

“Everyone involved in this initiative is a former learner to this school which makes this event personal to most of us,” Mlobedi added.

The NGO plans to implement a school jersey campaign to help learners have access to school uniforms, especially in winter.

“Our goal is to go beyond Thembisa handing out donations. We wish to restore every learner’s confidence with this campaign.”
