A decision to reject opposition parties’ proposed amendments to ActionSA’s original motion for a vote of no confidence in the mayor resulted in the adjournment of today’s meeting.

Council proceedings earlier today were disrupted by residents protesting  against poor service delivery, a walkout by DA councillors and Speaker of Council Nthabiseng Tshivhenga calling for an adjournment to address members of the public outside and accept a memorandum.

Inside council chambers, the EFF and the United Democratic Movement objected to the motion.

Parties which added their voice to the call to remove the mayor included the IFP, Patriotic Alliance, IRASA and Congress of the People.
the EFF raised its objection to the motion to remove the mayor.

Despite accepting the motion, Tshivhenga rejected the opposition’ amendments.

The ANC called on Action SA to reconsider its proposed amendmemts after which Tshivhenga adjourned the meeting stating she needs to seek legal advice on the amendments although she had already ruled on these items.
