SAPS launch vehicle theft awareness campaign

The campaign was initiated following an increase in cases of motor vehicle thefts and thefts out of motor vehicles at shopping centres.

Kempton Park SAPS Vispol support commander Lieutenant Colonel Shadrack Maqcuntsu and sector commander Sergeant Matome Ntjana joined security managers of various shopping centres and security guards for a hands-on awareness campaign focused on motor vehicle theft.

The campaign took place on March 28.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, the campaign follows an increase in motor vehicle thefts at shopping centres.

Kempton Park Vispol support commander Lieutenant Colonel Shadrack Maqcuntsu with sector commander Sergeant Matome Ntjana and other stakeholders.

Car guards were asked to encourage motorists to check their vehicle doors are locked and to be alert of their surroundings.

Dipuo said 50 motorists were given safety tip pamphlets.

Magcuntsu urged the car guards to maintain vigilance and collaborate closely with the police to effectively curb these crimes.
