Operation tackles land invasion in Rabie Ridge

“We will continue to carry out operations against land invasion to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents."

Officers from JMPD conducted a joint operation to address the issue of land invasion in Rabie Ridge on April 5.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with Gauteng Traffic Police, crime prevention wardens, and the Gauteng Province Human Settlement Department.

The issue of land invasion has been a serious problem for the authorities.

Only court orders give authorities the power to act lawfully and accordingly in land eviction cases.

The service providers involved in the operation included Laphinda, G3, Bhekani Abantu, Vintsiri, Legit, and Matlamorwa.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the JMPD demolished thousands of shacks on their arrival.

“It was observed that over 5 000 shacks had been illegally erected in Glen Austin, Midrand.

“In response, the operational team took decisive action by demolishing unoccupied and half-completed illegal structures, including those made of brick and mortar.

“The JMPD remains committed to maintaining law and order in the city.

“We will continue to carry out operations against land invasion to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

“We urge all residents to respect the law and refrain from erecting illegal structures,” added Fihla.
