Thembisa artist drops new album to show God’s love

It promotes open conversations, encourages seeking help, and shares stories of perseverance and triumph over adversity.

Steven Zulu Shongwe, better known as Smezi, is a 31-year-old musician from Thembisa who began his professional music career in 2010 as a backing vocalist for the late gospel artist Mzayoni.

Smezi developed his skills as a musician under Mzayoni’s mentorship at Soul Eagle Records.
Today, he runs his own independent label, using his music to spread messages of love and healing.

“For me, music is a calling,” Smezi said.

“I believe God sent me to help people overcome relationship problems. I am tired of seeing people hurt by their partners or struggling in relationships.

“Through my music, I want to show that love is a sign of God’s presence in our lives. God loves us and wants us to live with love in our hearts, so I am motivating people to love one another unconditionally.”

His latest album encourages listeners to stay true to their beliefs, avoid being swayed by negative opinions, and overcome relationship challenges.

“When someone says you are not truly in love because they think your partner used muthi on you, my songs remind you to stick by your partner through thick and thin.

“Don’t let family problems cloud your relationship; focus on the unconditional love you share.”

The album addresses themes like hatred, relationship struggles, lies, and misinformation, while also touching on mental health.

“I believe this album will give many people hope and strength,” Smezi said.
