Police units bust 98 suspects, recover vehicles and a firearm
Successful operations by Rapid Response services led to 98 arrests, with 62 motor vehicle recoveries and one firearm recovery.
Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 98 suspects, recovering 62 motor vehicles and one firearm between October 18 and 24.
Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.
These operations led to 39 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, armed robbery, common robbery, fraud, theft, possession of stolen property, house break-in, rape, murder, perjury, use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent, malicious damage to property and kidnapping.

Other crimes include contravention of a protection order, illegal immigration, shoplifting, bribery, defeating the ends of justice, possession of illicit cigarettes, theft of motor vehicles and driving under the influence of alcohol.
A total of 62 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 19 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
One unlicensed firearm was recovered.
In further policing, 40 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.
Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.
The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates courts across Gauteng.
