The city encourages residents to make use of its self-service meter management system for convenient billing.

The City of Ekurhuleni is encouraging residents to register for its self-service water meter management system, which enables them to capture and submit their readings from home.

This modernised approach aims to improve billing accuracy by reducing reliance on estimated readings.

How it works

Using the My COE App, residents can:

• Record their water meter readings.
• Upload images of the readings for verification.
• Submit the readings directly to the city.
• After submission, residents receive a confirmation notification for peace of mind. The app also sends reminders when it’s time to submit readings, helping residents stay on top of their utility management.
Benefits of the System
• Enhanced billing accuracy: Residents can provide precise readings, reducing discrepancies caused by estimation.
• Modernised processes: The digital platform ensures correct data entry and minimises duplication.
• Verification tools: Uploaded images of meter readings act as proof, increasing the credibility of submissions.
• Improved location tracking: GPS coordinates link the meter to the correct account, ensuring accurate billing.
• Streamlined service delivery: The system establishes consistency across customer care centres, enhancing efficiency.

For residents without smartphones, the city offers alternatives
• Visit a local customer care centre to submit readings.
• Allow a city-authorised meter reader to access the property and record readings.
Additional tips for managing water bills
• Residents are encouraged to regularly check for internal water leaks on their properties, as seemingly minor leaks can lead to significant water loss and inflated bills.
