Police units clamp down on crime in operations

A total of 37 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 14 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Rapid Response Services compromising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 113 suspects and recovered 37 motor vehicles and nine firearms from February 7 to 13.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 42 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, warrant of arrest, house burglary, contravention of protection order, theft, domestic violence, fraud, common robbery, house burglary, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of precious metals, illegal immigrants, rape, murder and armed robbery.

A total of 37 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 14 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Nine unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying six arrests.

In further policing, 46 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases and the suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
