Kempton Park SPCA welcomes new manager

Sibande will ensure the animals' welfare by implementing and maintaining strict care protocols, focusing on their physical and emotional health, and ensuring they receive adequate care.

The Kempton Park SPCA has appointed Richman Xolile Sibande as its new manager, following the resignation of Kira Sparrow in July last year.

Originally from Barberton, Mpumalanga, Sibande moved to Kempton Park in February 2025 to take up his new role.

With a background in construction and years of experience in sales, Sibande is also a qualified animal inspector.

His journey with the SPCA began in March 2020, and he completed his inspectorate course in April 2021.

“Animal welfare has always been something I am passionate about. I am excited about my new position and plan to bring positive change,” said Sibande.

“I have extensive experience working with animals in various capacities, and I am also AWA (animal welfare approved) competent.

“My focus has always been on maintaining high animal welfare standards and ensuring efficient care.”

As the new manager, Sibande will oversee the welfare of animals at the SPCA, implementing and maintaining strict care protocols, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being, and improving overall care standards.

Sibande aims to expand community engagement and fundraising efforts by hosting outreach programs, donation drives, and social media campaigns to raise awareness and support.

“I plan to host more community events to educate the public about the SPCA and ensure our work is visible. I also want to develop educational programmes on animal welfare and the importance of preventing cruelty to animals,” he said.

Under his leadership, the SPCA will focus on improving animal welfare services, increasing visibility through community outreach, and streamlining operations to enhance efficiency.

“A thorough assessment of the SPCA’s challenges is crucial.

“Addressing key issues such as funding shortages and public awareness will involve optimising resource use, securing additional funding sources, and improving operational processes,” he added.

Jaimin Patel, treasurer of the Kempton Park SPCA and NSPCA compliance officer, highlighted Sibande’s leadership qualities and hands-on approach.

“He exemplifies the qualities of a leader not afraid to get his hands dirty and assist where necessary. He is not just a delegator but a doer,” said Patel.

The SPCA also welcomed Cindy Naudé as a new committee member. Staff members expressed their gratitude for the additional support in managing the organisation.

“On behalf of the team and the Kempton Park SPCA community, I congratulate Richman on his new role as manager,” said Patel.

“Managing an SPCA is no small task; it requires strength, compassion, and a deep commitment to the welfare of animals and those who care for them. We know he will lead with integrity, kindness, and determination.”

Patel assured Sibande he has the full support of the team and community on this new journey.

“Know that you are not alone. You have a team that supports you, a community that believes in you, and a mission greater than all of us.

“We look forward to working alongside you and seeing you thrive in this role,” he added.
