PROTEST: Major traffic delays on routes around Kempton Park

Traffic chaos hits Kempton Park as protest action brings major routes to a standstill. Motorists are urged to find alternative routes.

UPDATE at 11:20 on March 19 – All routes around Kempton Park are flowing freely.

Motorists traveling through Kempton Park and surrounding areas this morning are facing heavy delays due to widespread protest action affecting several major routes.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has confirmed that demonstrations on the R21 southbound between Bapsfontein Road and the OR Tambo International Airport interchange have caused severe congestion.

Drivers are urged to seek alternative routes until the situation is resolved.

“We are aware of the ongoing protests,” said City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini. “We are gathering more information and will issue a formal statement as soon as further details become available.”
