CoE launches Easter Road safety campaign
The campaign, which has already commenced in various areas, is expected to continue throughout the Easter holidays.
The City of Ekurhuleni officially launched its Easter Road Safety Campaign on April 17, with Executive Mayor Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and MMC for Community Safety, Alderman Sizakele Masuku, urging all road users to remain vigilant and responsible during the busy travel period.
As part of the campaign, city leaders and law enforcement officials are taking to the streets across Ekurhuleni, conducting stop-and-search operations to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and not transporting illegal substances. The campaign, which has already commenced in various areas, is expected to continue throughout the Easter holidays.
Executive Mayor Xhakaza said the operations aim to promote lawfulness and ensure that all drivers adhere to road safety regulations.
“Our goal is to reinforce the message of road safety and compliance. Everyone travelling within or through Ekurhuleni must obey traffic laws. As of today, two people have already been arrested for being in the country without proper documentation, and they are being processed for deportation,” said Xhakaza.
He emphasised that these operations are not only about enforcement, but also about creating awareness to prevent unnecessary arrests or accidents.
“We encourage all drivers to inspect their vehicles before setting off and to comply fully with traffic laws. This is about keeping our roads safe for everyone during the Easter season.”
The City reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safer road environment for residents and visitors alike.
