City moves to clear waste backlog after week-long disruption

Residents in all affected suburbs are urged to take their bins out as the City of Ekurhuleni rolls out weekend waste recovery.

The City of Ekurhuleni has announced a recovery plan to address the waste removal backlog affecting parts of Kempton Park and Thembisa since Tuesday, November 18.

The plan will be implemented today, November 22.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to place their waste bins and excess refuse bags outside on Saturday morning to ensure collection.

The recovery operation includes clearing the backlog at the Impala Park waste transfer station.

According to CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini the City is working to resolve the underlying issues that led to the service disruption.

Areas scheduled for servicing on Saturday:

  • Chloorkop
  • Proton Industrial Park
  • Birchleigh North (all extensions)
  • Nest Park AH
  • Terenure
  • Fly Inn
  • Cilvale AH
  • Ibaxa
  • Emangweni
  • Norkem Park Ext 4
  • Phomolong
  • Commercia
  • Friendship Town
  • Witfontein (Serengeti)
  • Esselen Park (all extensions)
  • Birch Acres (all extensions)
