Birch Acres’ DJ Supreme turns passion into success
“The joy of DJing is more than playing songs. Bringing people together and seeing them smile while I DJ is a special kind of happiness.”
Sandile Mthethwa from Birch Acres, better known as DJ Supreme, is becoming a rising star in the local entertainment scene.
Describing himself as a flexible and passionate DJ, Mthethwa can play everything from amapiano and old school house to music for corporate events.
“I’m a versatile DJ. I can play for any type of event,” he said.
His love of music began long before his career took off. Growing up, he enjoyed kwaito, house music, and amapiano, being part of that musical family, and soon it became his favourite style to play.

After the Covid period in 2020, Mthethwa pursued DJing seriously.
“I really wanted to start, so I sold my Xbox and bought my first DJ controller. I then spent hours watching YouTube tutorials to learn how to beatmatch songs. With practice, I grew more confident and skilled behind the decks,” he explained.
His early gigs included birthday parties and weddings. After gaining experience, he entered a DJ competition at Cofi, where he reached the finals out of more than 50 DJs.
“Making the finals showed me I could really do this,” he said.
Soon thereafter, he began performing at popular venues such as Perere, Capello, and Laparada.

As his passion for music grew, Mthethwa also turned his attention to business.
He joined a short business development course run by a German organisation supporting small businesses. Upon completing the course and receiving his stipend, he invested every cent in buying speakers.
In 2022, he began renting out sound equipment for weddings, graduations, birthday parties, and year-end functions. Starting small, his dedication soon helped the business grow.

Mthethwa draws inspiration from well-known artists such as Mdu aka TRP, Kabza De Small, and Black Coffee.
“One day I want to be on the same line-up as Mdu or Kabza. These artists motivate me to aim higher and improve my craft,” he said.
Reflecting on 2025, he described it as a positive year for both his personal growth and his business. His faith has played an important role in his journey.
“I believe in Christ. God guides me to the right path and the right people,” he said.
“The joy of DJing is more than playing songs. Bringing people together and seeing them smile while I DJ is a special kind of happiness.”
Currently, Mthethwa works as a sound technician at Venue Tech in Sandton, a company handling corporate events and hotel conferences. This role allows him to learn more about sound, which also supports his DJ career.
Looking ahead, Mthethwa has clear goals for 2026. He plans to expand his DJ career to other provinces, such as Durban and Cape Town, and grow his sound business by acquiring more equipment.
