Kempton Park’s Sdumane MaGesh builds 8-year DJ career by 22
DJ Sdumane MaGesh has built an impressive eight-year career inspired by his brothers.
At just 22, Bokamoso Lesomo, known professionally as ‘Sdumane MaGesh’, is already eight years into his DJ career.
A Kempton Park resident, MaGesh started DJing by following in the footsteps of his older brothers, J Lesh and Dr Mish, performing in Rustenburg and Kempton Park.

“What began as following my brothers grew into a passion,” he said. “My environment and experiences have also played a big role in shaping that passion.”
MaGesh describes himself as a versatile DJ, spinning soulful house, Afro-tech and amapiano. His music choice varies depending on the crowd, the event and the time of day.
“My musical choices are inspired by personal experiences, emotions and a desire to connect with others through music,” he explained.
To keep the dance floor energy high, MaGesh uses beatmatching, harmonic mixing and EQ mixing.
“Beatmatching aligns the rhythm between tracks, while harmonic mixing blends songs with compatible keys. Both are essential for maintaining momentum,” he explained.
Like many creatives, MaGesh faces challenges such as financial instability, intense competition, shifting audience tastes and the mental strain of late nights and constant self-promotion. Yet, he remains determined to push through.
“I overcome these challenges by working hard and staying calm under pressure,” he said.

His biggest goal is to consistently create unforgettable experiences and build strong connections with his audience through music.
While playing great tracks is crucial, he emphasises that building and maintaining a vibe is key.
“Many DJs chase awards, chart-topping hits or international exposure, but for me, it’s about the impact I make on the dance floor.”
Over the years, MaGesh has performed at various venues, including pubs, clubs, festivals, events and private parties. He was a resident DJ at Otto’s Chill Zone and the Sis B Tavern in Rustenburg, as well as Amix Lounge in Kempton Park.
He has shared the stage with artists such as Zan’Ten, Busta 929, DJ Obza, Junior Taurus, The Lowkeys, Sje Konka, Big Soul and Felo Le Tee.
Inspired by artists like Virgo Deep, MaGesh always keeps his audience in mind during every performance.
“I consider the crowd’s musical tastes, the event’s atmosphere and the energy they expect. A good set balances familiar hits with fresh, lesser-known tracks to keep things exciting.”
When asked about his family’s response to his career, MaGesh said, “Their reactions varied at first, but they’ve since adapted and now support me.
“Though there are sacrifices like late nights and time away from home, they appreciate the passion and creativity I bring to this craft.”
