SASSA reminds beneficiaries that all services are free

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) warns beneficiaries to be alert for fraudsters claiming to offer grant assistance for payment.

SASSA has reminded beneficiaries that all its services are provided free of charge.

The agency warns that any person or entity asking for payment to assist with social grant applications is engaging in fraudulent behaviour.

SASSA national spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, emphasised that clients should remain vigilant and not entertain anyone approaching them at home or in public claiming to be from SASSA and requesting compensation.

“We have become aware of incidents where fraudsters target vulnerable beneficiaries to swindle them out of their grant money.

“All SASSA services are free, and staff members are not permitted to demand any payment for assistance,” Letsatsi said.

Beneficiaries are urged to report suspicious behaviour immediately to law enforcement authorities. Letsatsi added that public vigilance is crucial to protecting the integrity of the social grant system.

“SASSA is committed to rooting out fraudulent practices and ensuring that social grants reach those who need them most.

“We urge communities to report any illegal activity, even at SASSA offices, to safeguard the system,” he said.

To report suspicious activity, members of the public can contact:
* SASSA toll-free number: 0800 60 10 11
* National Anti-Corruption Hotline: 0800 701 701
