Fundraiser run supports farm development initiative

Kempton Park resident, Phindi Cindi hosted a run to raise funds.

Phindi Cindi and her team from Kempton Park hosted a fundraising run in Heidelberg on March 8 in support of the Adventist Farm Development project.

Supporters and runners turned out in large numbers to take part in the initiative, combining fitness with a good cause.

The event marked Cindi’s first organised run and was considered a success, with about 400 runners participating in support of the initiative.

Cindi said the goal of the project is to create a lasting legacy for future generations.

“The main goal is to leave a legacy for children and grandchildren and create a better place for them so they do not have to start from scratch when developing the area. We also want to promote a healthy lifestyle within the Kempton Park community and across Ekurhuleni,” she said.

According to Cindi, organising the event was not without challenges, particularly when it came to securing sponsors for the development project. However, the community responded positively to the initiative.

She added that safety was a priority for the event, with an ambulance, nurses and doctors on standby to assist participants if needed.

For Cindi and her team, the highlight of the event was seeing the strong support from partners and the community from the planning stages through to the day of the run.

She said sponsors honoured their commitments and the event was completed without any injuries or health incidents.

“The purpose of the run was to raise funds for the farm development project, and we are grateful for the support we received,” she said.

Cindi also acknowledged the support of several community and church leaders.

“We had the support of Ward 15 SHRAC Faith Ngako, Women’s Ministries TOC director Pastor Valerie Mhundwa, Sherpedes Mongwe, Pastor Tataiso and Pastor Mkhize, along with the North East Gauteng Women’s Ministries leaders, the SDA Athletics team and the community at large,” she added.

Following the success of the event, the team hopes to host another run next year.

Cindi emphasised the importance of encouraging people to stay active.

“It is very important to promote health and fitness in the community because many people do not exercise, walk or run regularly. Participants enjoyed the programme because it promoted health and fitness while also supporting a good cause,” she said.
